How did it come to be and where is it going?

Ever since I was a kid, I imagined a website built around profiles and nothing more. A place where anyone could create their own page, write a poem, make a list.

As I write this six years later, I feel that in many ways, this website doesn't need any new features, but I've continued to garden it and experiment with other ways that it can support community.

Memories

The site's homepage filling up with new users in the first few months. Originally "communities" were called "places."
