When I consider using the internet as a medium to express love, I immediately try connecting it to the tangible gears of IRL connection. I feel like the easiest way for me to describe it would be the generally accepted five love languages—: gifts, affirmation, quality time, acts of service, and physical touch. In-person, these expressions are instinctual, seemingly woven into daily interactions. Sharing glances, an unhurried conversation, the warmth of a hand on your back bearing a weight that doesn’t need a modular translation. Online, my expressions of love take a different shape. When love languages are reshaped by the internet, then what is the ideal mode for my dialects of care?
