[৽…৽] < hello world ) ⃝ < hello robotamerica! ) ❝if i can't dance, i don't want to be part of your revolution.❞ ­­ — emma goldman ≔=========================≕ 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗸𝗺.𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 ≔=========================≕ 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 ecologist, geographer, mapmaker, systems thinker, poet, photographer, printer 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 vernacular technologies, solarpunk design, community building 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 xalapa, veracruz, mexico 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 leaflet.js, astro, vscode, pen & paper, mimeography, letterpress, olympic pen ep-5, canon sl1 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 a bit more and an archive of my special fish posts at https://robotamerica.surge.sh ≔=========================≕ 𝓪 𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓵𝓮 𝓸𝓫𝓽𝓾𝓼𝓮 𝓵𝓸𝓰𝓫𝓸𝓸𝓴 ≔=========================≕ 7.05.2025 well, while on vacation i got the news that trump's big beautiful bill was passed including his axing of tax incentives for green energy. this puts my job in solar at risk. it will also likely slow solar r+d for green energies and, ultimately, due to the ai power drain, the us is headed for an energy crisis. while i don't live in the us, my own economic security is tied to their economy (like so many in the world). other than being saddened about the state of affairs for the solar industry in general, i am happy that i can always fall back on my previous career as an educator or educational consultant. plus i have been taking plenty of time to upskill preparing myself for this as soon as i heard trump was running for president again. but man, donald, eres in pendejo. 7.02.2025 here in alberta, my birthplace. it is an incredible reminder of how big the sky can be. mountain and forest life near xalapa makes one feel cozy and rooted. the prairies make you feel small and wayward. a common topic folk want to talk to me about here is ice in the us. i have had friends who have been deported and displaced by the current state of affairs in the country that lays between the two others that i belong to. even my relatively conservative parents have taken to boycotting any gringo product (including fruits and veggies). canada certainly has better pr when it comes to immigration and immigrant life. but i am also constantly reminded that even though this is a multicultural society, it is still a white and colonised space. i can easily say, every time i have come back i have experienced the slap of culture shock. a reminder of why, when growing up here, i found myself only ever feeling any sense of belonging in either immigrant communities, communities of resistance, and subculture groups (punks in the city). so much is different, but so much is the same. we will see where this trip takes us existentially. -- 6.29.2025 woke up to ensure i remembered to pack everything for my trip today. it is raining a ton. it rains a lot in xalapa. we live in a small fog forest in the mountains whose weather is often dictated by the gulf of mexico's coast. it is a wet city, but green and beautiful year round. the current weather system is the result of our second tropical storm of the year. massive flooding and landslides have resulted from the heavy rainfall. before i leave i have been updating my new little web nook linked above. i also created a small solar almanac site i have uploaded to surge (https://spalmanac.surge.sh/) . i tried to get a bunch of little projects started before leaving as i don't want to have too much screen time while away. i want real vacation time. i joined the writing room today, i was the only one in my timezone ... so nobody else. hopefully in the future other folk can join me, or i can join in another timezone that makes sense. -- 6.28.2025 tomorrow i leave xalapa to catch my flight in cdmx for canada [my birth place]. it was around eight years before my previous return last year for the unfortunate event of my grandmother's death. this year, it will be about enjoyment, catching up with childhood friends, and being with family. i am looking forward to limiting my screentime from my typical ten-hour workdays to hopefully less than one for the next three weeks. anytime spent in front of the screen will be unproductive, except possibly for editing photos (if that counts as productive?), and fun! maybe a little playtime, but certainly not work-focused at all. i can't wait to go find a book at some old used bookstore and go sit by the river and read it. to go fishing with my brother, to drink fancy craft beers with my dad, and play scrabble with my sister & mum. -- 6.26.2025 i am not really sure what to make of this space yet. i suppose i can introduce myself. my name is kevin, but my friends call me km [kay-em] and i go by km.nada or robotamerica [for the most part] online. robotamerica is a handle i have had since the mid-to-late 90's. it was my handle on many a bbs, it was the name of a print zine i created to share at punk shows, and it was the name of many blogs and webspace since. robotamerica has had many iterations and i suppose you can consider this another one. happy to be here.
