5.28.24 yesterday, i had a realization that i have almost never been able to be truly spontaneous as a cripple. 'sucks. (someone on a dating app asked me what i was doing literally that second and i realized normal people would be able to respond completely differently than how i did.) 5.27.24 **stock-cooking** a concept. a way of cooking, by literally 'taking stock' of what you have; in your kitchen & pantry, in your immediate neighborhood, in your community, in your culture. in order of priority, practicality, necessity; you cook with whatever you have on hand, if you're missing an ingredient, you don't go to Bezos' Whβ˜…le Fβ˜…β˜…ds or another chain grocer, you go to your neighbor or a smaller market, or to the garden; for invasive plants, to get rid of them, or for native plants, to contribute to a harvest, and if you need inspiration you ask around to your friends & cousins, or you consult your ancestors. "benny, this exists, it's called--" i have no doubt that this is not a new concept. it's new to me. i'm writing it out for myself, primarily, and my own 'friends & cousins.' please feel free to educate me on the various other forms of this out there in the world & on the web, and i'm not being sarcastic, i'm actually interested. "benny, you're talking about zero-waste cooki--" no, because my goal is not to produce zero waste, although that can be your personal goal, or a complimentary, secondary goal to stock-cooking. my goal, though, is: to stop thinking in terms of what i want, or what recipes lifestyle brands or corporations are pushing, and to start thinking in terms of what i already have. i imagine that, even though i'm already fairly experimental, my meals are going to get even weirder. i love it.
